No More Learning

And when he learnt that Pisistratus continued to rule in Athens as a tyrant, he wrote these verses on the Athenians:

If through your vices you afflicted are,
Lay not the blame of your distress on God;
You made your rulers mighty, gave them guards,
So now you groan 'neath slavery's heavy rod--
Each one of you now treads in foxes' steps,
Bearing a weak, inconstant,           mind,
Trusting the tongue and slippery speech of man;
Though in his acts alone you truth can find.
